Man killed by elevator malfunction in New York City
A man died in a luxurious multi-story building in Manhattan.



A tragic incident occurred around 8:30 in a 23-story building called Manhattan Embankment, located at 344 Third Avenue near East 25th Street in Kips Bay.

According to the New York City Fire Department’s deputy chief of staff (FDNY), Anthony Arpaya, who had seven people when he stopped at the lobby level. The man was on the first floor, trapped in a death trap. All other people remained in the basement. FDNY said the man died on the spot. He was about 30 years old.



According to StreetEasy, one-room apartments in a building can be rented for up to $3,695 per month. While according to the New York Times, the building was recently fined for unsafe elevators.

A New York City Department of Building and Buildings statement said they are investigating the incident. “We will take all necessary measures. Due to strict security requirements and due to ongoing inspections by the city. We will definitely find out that this will be done in the future”.
